Sheboygan woman (allegedly) passed out drunk in McDonald's drive-thru

From The Sheboygan Press

A 27-year-old Sheboygan woman passed out drunk in her car while trying to place an order in a McDonald’s drive-thru earlier this month, according to court documents filed this week.

Police officers summoned by employees found Stacy L. Erickson slumped over and snoring inside her 1991 Ford Escort, according to a criminal complaint. The incident occurred about 3:40 a.m. July 30 at the McDonald’s at 2425 S. Business Drive.

Officers’ initial attempts to rouse Erickson were unsuccessful, but she woke up after they turned off the car and tried again.

Erickson had to grab the car to steady herself as she got out, and she failed field sobriety tests.

Erickson is charged with misdemeanor third-offense drunken driving and faces up to a year in jail, if convicted. She is scheduled to make an initial court appearance Aug. 30.

Wild turkeys. Maybe wild and crazy turkeys

Wednesday morning, two turkeys stopped traffic along 5th Street in east Greeley, challenging the drivers and sometimes block-

ing the road as people drove to work.

In addition to stopping traffic, the turkeys are getting more bold. Recently, one east Greeley family reported a turkey knocking on their front door. They called animal control officers.

Greeley's animal control officers have been called out on turkeys before, although there's not much they can do about the big birds.

“They're wild animals,” said Sgt. Susie West. “We can call the Department of Wildlife, but other than chase them away, we can't do anything.”

At the DOW, Officer Brandon Muller said there are now thousands of turkeys along the South Platte and Poudre rivers in northeastern Colorado. “The turkey population has exploded over the last two years,” Muller said.

The turkeys that were blocking 5th Street off and on Wednesday were in front of Colorado Equipment, a John Deere dealership. Manager Daniel Lowe said the turkeys have been in the area about three months, since the Colorado Department of Transportation blocked the U.S. 85 bypass for construction work.

“We're not sure why they moved over here,” Lowe said, “But I've seen as many as six of them at a time.”

According to West, a couple of months ago, animal control officers received a call from an east Greeley resident who said a turkey was knocking on their front door.

“We found out the turkey must have seen his reflection in the door glass,” West said, “and thought it was another turkey and started pecking at it.”

Turkeys have never been known for their intelligence.

For those who are interested, fall turkey season opens on Sept. 1. But Greeley police Sgt. Joe Tymkowych was quick to note that it is illegal to hunt turkeys inside the Greeley city limits.

Jilted boyfriend bombarded ex with 2,000 calls a week

A jilted boyfriend repeatedly phoned his ex-girlfriend begging to be taken back – more than 2,000 times in a WEEK, a court heard.

Relentless Jason Annis, 27, bombarded his former lover with hundreds of calls and text messages after she dumped him for someone else.

During one eight-day period he then called her 1,046 times and sent more than 630 texts.

He also sent her more than 350 messages on Facebook.

They ranged from demanding to be taken back, questions about the couple’s 10-month-old baby and threats of suicide.

The victim went to complain to police but while she was giving a statement he rang her 56 TIMES.

Annis, of Liskeard, Cornwall, pleaded guilty to harassment between June 18 and July 8 this year at Plymouth Magistrates Court.

He was given an 18-month community order, ordered to pay £85 costs and given a two-year restraining order to keep more than 100 metres from his victim.

District Judge Paul Farmer said the case was ”unique” because of the sheer number of calls and text messages.

He said: ”I have seen many cases of this nature before me but I cannot believe I have seen someone receive this amount of calls and texts.

”The sheer volume would cause anyone concern, quite frankly, about the state of your mind. In your relationship, there are clearly issues. You need help.”

The court heard Annis and the unnamed woman had a child together but their short-lived relationship broke down at the end of 2008.

They got back together again but had a fresh break-up and it was then that he started to harass his victim.

Stephen Walker, defending, said Annis had ”deep-seated problems” and asked him to consider a rehabilitation programme.

Annis was also ordered to attend a domestic abuse programme

Medicare pays for woman's penis pumps

MIAMI, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Two Florida penis pump purveyors allegedly bilked Medicare for phony claims, including for four pumps for a single female patient, officials said.

The Hialeah companies, Charlie RX and Happy Trips, together fraudulently billed Medicare $63,000 for vacuum-erection systems -- at $395 a piece -- that are supposed to help remedy male patients' impotence, the Miami Herald reported Tuesday.

The federal Medicare program paid the two companies $28,600, charges unsealed Monday in Miami federal court showed.

"That we should have caught," said Medicare spokesman Peter Ashkenaz of the payments for the woman's pumps.

Emilio Felipe Lopez, 47, president of Charlie RX, and Orlando Hernandez Estevez, 25, president of Happy Trips, in February were indicted on charges of healthcare fraud. FBI agents last week arrested the two, who authorities said were in hiding.

Lopez and Estevez are accused of stealing Medicare patients' numbers and doctors' identifications to submit close to $2 million in fraudulent bills to Medicare between October and February, the Herald reported.

The newspaper said Medicare pays bills quickly without first verifying them -- enabling Miami-Dade County's reputation as the nation's healthcare-fraud capital.

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius last month said Medicare would end the "pay and chase" system, whereby federal law enforcement must rectify Medicare's billing mistakes after false claims are already paid.

Last year, medical-equipment businesses nationwide were paid $2.4 million after billing Medicare for penis pumps, with 90 percent of the payments made to Florida companies, the Herald said.

DONALD DUCK 'GROPED' MUM AT DISNEY WORLD

Mother-of-two April Magolon is suing Disney for more than £140,000 after claiming she fell victim to “his” unwanted attentions.

In her lawsuit Ms Magolon, 27, repeatedly refers to the character as being a man – but Disney sources said women are usually chosen to dress up as Donald Duck.

Ms Magolon says she still has nightmares after her encounter with the cartoon favourite.

She has filed a lawsuit in which she says the experience has caused her “flashbacks and cold sweats”.

She was at the theme park in Orlando, Florida, when she approached a worker dressed as Donald Duck. She was carrying one of her young children and wanted the character to sign her autograph book.

She claims Donald Duck groped her breasts and then made a gesture suggesting he knew he had been bad.

Ms Magolon, from Pennsylvania, says the experience ruined her holiday and claims she has since developed medical issues including insomnia and nausea and has been unable to work. According to her, Orange County police have received more than 24 complaints from visitors claiming they were also groped by Disney characters.

She says her case echoes that of a 13-year-old girl who said she was groped by a Tigger character.

In that case a Disney worker was cleared of indecent assault after his lawyer wore the Tigger costume in court to prove how hard it was to see.

A Disney spokesman said they will contest Ms Magolon’s claims in court.

FloriDUH's top 911 non-emergency calls

by: Barbara Hijek August 2, 2010 07:43 AM
It is a crime — a first class misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and $1,000 fine — to deliberately abuse 911 emergency call lines. But 911 supervisors in Martin, Indian River and St. Lucie counties say abuse usually has to be especially egregious before arrests are made, reports TCPalm.com.

Perhaps the most widely publicized incident involving a Treasure Coast emergency call center occurred in March 2009: A 27-year-old Fort Pierce woman phoned 911 three times after a McDonald’s restaurant didn’t have enough Chicken McNuggets to fill her 10-piece meal order and would not immediately give her a cash refund.
That caller was issued an order to appear in court on a charge of misusing 911.
TCPalm.com cites other examples:One man phoned 911 from the ninth hole of a golf course to order a chicken salad sandwich, toasted.
In another instance, it took a translator to determine a Spanish-speaking woman was phoning 911 to learn results of her gynecological exam.
Then, there were two separate instances involving little boys: One phoned emergency dispatchers to ask help with his math homework; another called to report his mommy wouldn’t kiss him good night.
“There is a problem with drunk dialing,” Amy Boger, operations manager for St. Lucie County’s 911 emergency dispatch center, told TCPalm.com.

Tokyo's 'oldest woman' missing for decades

Tokyo's reputed oldest woman has been missing for decades, Japanese officials have discovered as they made checks after the city's supposed oldest man was found to have died years ago.

Fusa Furuya, aged 113, had been registered as living with her daughter.

But the daughter says she has not seen her mother since the 1980s.

According to government data, there are more than 40,000 centenarians in Japan. But the discoveries in Tokyo have cast doubt on the accuracy of the figures.

Despite being reputed to be Tokyo's oldest woman, it appears no-one had bothered to check that Mrs Furuya was still alive - until now.

Local council officials have been visiting the very elderly after the body of Sogen Kato, thought to be Tokyo's oldest man, was found last week.

The police believe he had been dead for more than 30 years.

When officials went to Ms Furuya's home, they discovered that she had been missing for decades.

Her daughter told them she had not been in contact with her mother when she moved into the flat in 1986.

But she had registered her mother as living there, and kept paying her health insurance, just in case.

Efforts are now under way to trace Mrs Furuya's son to find out if she is living with him.

Mom Gets Life For Locking Children in Bathroom

DALLAS -- A mother whose three children were found starving after being shut away in a hotel bathroom for as long as nine months was sentenced to life in prison Friday after changing her plea to guilty in the middle of her trial.

Abneris Santiago, 31, had faced between five years and life in prison on a felony charge of injury to a child.

Police rescued Santiago's 11-year-old daughter and 10- and 5-year-old sons from a bathroom at an extended-stay hotel along one of Dallas' busiest freeways in July 2009. The children, whose skeletons were visible beneath their flaky, stretched skin, were near death from chronic starvation. Authorities say the girl was repeatedly sexually assaulted by her mother's boyfriend.

Alfred Santiago was convicted Tuesday of injury to a child and continuous sexual abuse. He was sentenced to two 99-year sentences, to be served concurrently.

The former couple share a last name but never married.

Abneris Santiago's plea on the third day of testimony came a day after she apologized to her daughter in a tearful courtroom reunion, saying she wasn't strong enough to stop the abuse. The girl said she loved her mother and did not want her to go to prison.

Police: Wendy’s robber complains about skimpy haul

ATLANTA -- Police say a man who robbed a fast-food restaurant with a gun was so mad about the amount of loot that he called back twice to complain.

The man walked up to the drive-through window of an Atlanta Wendy's late Saturday night, wearing a ski mask and holding a gun.

He demanded the cash drawer, grabbed it and ran away.

But police say he later called the fast food restaurant to complain about the amount of cash.

Police say in one call he said that "next time there better be more than $586."

He called again with a similar complaint.

Reno boy dies after mother's van runs him over

Bicycling 11-year-old run over by minivan. Sadder: Minivan driven by boy's mom. Dumbass: Mom was driving slow so boy could hang on to the minivan instead of pedal An 11-year-old Reno bicyclist died Sunday night when he lost his grip on a minivan being driven by his mother and was run over.

The boy had been riding at slow speed beside or was hanging onto the minivan on Filbert Road about 8:22 p.m. when he lost balance, Sgt. Martin Wright said in a news release. A Reno officer in the area immediately attempted cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.

Police blocked intersections for a REMSA ambulance carrying the boy, but he was pronounced dead at Renown Regional Medical Center a short time after arrival.

Woman called 911, asked for date

Bernadette Music, 43, of Norwood, was booked into the Hamilton County jail on charges of disorderly conduct while intoxicated about 5 p.m. Sunday and released by 10 p.m., jail officials said.

She tied up 911 dispatchers on July 26 by calling four or five times and asking for a date, court records state.

Music also is accused of urinating in the hallway of her apartment building in the 500 block of Maple Ave.

Just last month, an Ohio woman made national headlines when she was arrested for a similiar offense.

Audrey Scott of Alliance was charged with calling 911 five times in one hour looking for a husband after having too much to drink. She spent three days in jail.

Inmate sues man he's convicted of burglarizing

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A Florida inmate is suing the man he's convicted of burglarizing, claiming the man and two others roughed him up during a citizen's arrest.

Michael Dupree is serving a 12-year sentence for burglary and cocaine possession stemming from a 2007 break-in of a van in St. Petersburg. Dupree allegedly stole a bicycle locked inside and was apprehended after the owner, Anthony McKoy, saw him with the bike down the street.

Dupree says McKoy and two others pointed a gun at him, handcuffed him and placed a knee painfully in his back. He's seeking $500,000 for disabilities and distress suffered during the takedown.

Dupree filed the civil lawsuit on his own, without the help of an attorney.

After being served with the suit, McKoy said, "I thought it was a joke. I'm the victim."
